Yesterday (after feeling sorry for ourselves for a few hours in the morning) we headed out to explore the small island of Flores. Ended up joining a group of other people from the hostel on our way out and headed across the lake to a very small zoo that also had a (very fast) water slide from the top of the hill into the lake. Resulted in a few minor injuries but good fun. After tat we headed to some guys house that had a rope swing into the lake. Someone took some photos but has left for the next destination on the Gringo Trail, so I’ll grab them when we catch.
Today we had a very early start (4.30am!) to head out to Tikal, some massive Mayan ruins about an hour and a half out of Flores. Saw a small crocodile, HUGE spiders (which I did actually hold – another fear conquered…NOT!) some monkeys and many, many, many ruins. We’re kind of over ruins, though the guide was fantastic – no more we think.
Tomorrow we get a bus for a full day from Flores to Semuc Champey, so we wont have too much to post about. I’m not sure if we’ll have internet down there, so if there aren’t any posts for the next few days, don’t sweat it – we’ll update when we get to Antigua in 4-5 days.
